Magic Johnson
On November 7, 1991, the former Los Angeles Laker announced during a press conference that he was retiring from basketball because he was HIV positive. Johnson said he contracted the virus via unprotected sex. He vowed to become the face of the disease and has since raised millions of dollars in funding for HIV/AIDS research through the Magic Johnson Foundation. Today, he remains one of the most famous people in the world living with the virus.
