When Taraji P. Henson noticed her scalp wasn’t being cared for, she took matters into her own hands and concocted products in her kitchen. Now, the Academy Award–nominated actress and star of the TV series Empire has launched a hair care line for all types of tresses, TPH by Taraji, People reports.

“Women think that just because you have your hair braided up under a weave…you don’t have to [do anything else],” said Henson. “But you have to take care of it.”

Described as “haircare for the culture” on its official Instagram page, TPH by Taraji features 18 affordable products—priced from $4.99 to $14.99—that are color coded for a range of hair types. The products’ names represent who she is, Henson says.

For straight and wavy hair, there’s Serene Queen, a gentle shampoo for daily use. Those with curly and coily hair can try Hustle & Co, a rich co-wash, as well as Smooth Attitude, a mending hair milk, and Slick, an edge-control treatment. Among the products for all hair types are Master Cleanse, a targeted scalp wash; Mint Condition, a tingling scalp conditioner; and Never Salty, a sugar-based scrub for scalp and hair.

“I created applicators that deliver the product to your scalp,” Henson explained. “It’s not compromised on your fingertips or wasted on your hair.”

Henson uses mostly five products from TPH in her hair care routine: Master Cleanse, Never Salty, Hustle & Co, Make It Rain (a hydration-rich conditioner) and Glow Up (a pure oil blend).

The actress regularly keeps her hair braided for work. When sweat builds up from the braids and wigs she wears, Henson uses the scalp scrub and scalp wash to ensure her hair is in the best possible condition before rebraiding.

“I follow up with one of my shampoos and masks, then we braid it down with my Glow Up oil so that my hair doesn’t feel brittle and deprived when I take it out,” she said. When she’s wearing her natural hair out, Henson uses the co-wash and the Make It Rain conditioner.

“My fans trust me, so this is me sharing with them,” she said. “It’s challenging when you have a dream because you’ve got to sell it to the world.”

Now, Henson is doing just that, as she has made her dream a reality. (To buy TPH by Taraji, visit a Target store or shop at Target.com.)
