His family didn’t reveal details surrounding his stroke, but they expressed confidence that Sinbad would soon be well.

According to the American Stroke Association, there are several risk factors for stroke, including high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes and diet, all of which can be managed with medication or via lifestyle changes. However, other risk factors, such as age, family history, race and gender, are not within a person’s control

Upon learning of Sinbad’s stroke, celebrities and fans sent the beloved comedian their well wishes and prayers. On Twitter, @omeganerd5 wrote, “Damn, I just heard about @sinbad. Nothing but love for you man. Pulling for you. My thoughts are with you. Get well soon! #sinbad.”

Musician Sheila E. tweeted, “Family, let’s pray for my dear friend Sinbad. Recently suffered a stroke. Plz keep him lifted in prayer. We need him to make us laugh again @sinbadbad.”

Sinbad’s relatives requested that their privacy be respected during this time. “Our family thanks you in advance for your love and support and ask for continued prayers for his healing,” they said in the statement.
